Alumni Family Days

Alumni Family Days is the University’s annual event for alumni and their children designed to give students and parents a chance to learn more about the college admission process. This year’s program will be held in person at Alumni Hall and will be restricted to high school juniors (Class of 2024) and their alumni parent(s) as registration is limited. We feature a panel discussion of admission deans from a host of colleges and universities and a workshop on effective essay writing. In addition, we offer a mock evaluation of admission cases to give participants an understanding of factors that affect an admission decision. Participation in the program has no bearing on a candidate’s admission to the University. We host the program as we feel it is informative and valuable for families beginning to consider the college search process.

This event is #open to all alumni with high school juniors interested in the UVA admission process.

Thursday, September 22

• 4-6 p.m. – Check in
• 4:30-5:30 p.m. – Optional: Tour of Grounds
• 5:30-6:30 p.m. – Cocktail hour with live music
• 6:45 p.m. – Dinner
• 7:15 p.m. – Welcome by Greg Roberts, Dean of Undergraduate Admission
• 7:30 p.m. – Keynote speaker

Friday, September 23

• 8-8:45 a.m. – Breakfast
• 8:45-9:15 a.m. – Session 1: Building a Class
• 9:15-10 a.m. – Session 2: College Search Process Panel
• 10-10:15 a.m. – Break
• 10:15-11 a.m. – Q&A with Admission Deans
• 11-11:45 a.m. – Session 3: Essay Writing Workshop
• 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. – Lunch
• 1-3 p.m. – Session 4: Case Studies
• 3-3:30 p.m. – Closing Remarks
• 3:30 p.m. – Optional: Tour of Grounds
